Il team di Ubuntu ha annunciato il rilascio di Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS per le versioni Desktop, Server e Cloud nonché per le varie derivate ufficiali di Ubuntu che godono del supporto LTS.
Questa seconda point release di Ubuntu porta con se l'HWE stack di Ubuntu 16.10 che comprende X.Org Server 1.18.4, Mesa 12.0.6 3D Graphis Library e il Kernel Linux 4.8. Questo supporto è offerto per tutte le architetture tranne per la versione 32-bit per PowerPc ed è installato di default quando si utilizza la versione desktop. Ubuntu Server offrirà invece, durante l'installazione, il Kernel GA ma è comunque possibile selezionare il Kernel HWE durante l'installazione.
Oltre a questo troviamo i consueti aggiornamenti di sicurezza e correzioni di bug critici fino ad ora rilasciati.

Ricordo a tutti che gli aggiornamenti di manutenzione sono disponibili per 5 anni per Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud, Ubuntu Base e Ubuntu Kylin. Le restanti derivate sono supportate per 3 anni.

Come aggiornare?
Se avete già installato Ubuntu 16.04.1 per aggiornare vi basterà dare
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
Questo aggiornerà il sistema lasciando però inalterato lo stack e il Kernel (su Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS trovate il Kernel 4.4.x).
Sapete cosa si dice nel mondo Linux, se funziona non aggiornare. Se volete però farlo vi basterà dare il comando
sudo apt install --install-recommends xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
