| Puffiamo XMir su Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander |
AVVERTENZE: XMir è ancora in fase di sviluppo e presenza attualmente alcuni problemi (che vedremo più sotto) oltre che incompatibilità con i driver proprietari. Prima di installare XMir su Ubuntu Saucy siate coscienti di ciò, l'autore del post non farà assistenza a riguardo :P
Bene, fatta questa dovuta precisazione vediamo di passare alla notizia. Gli sviluppatori di Ubuntu hanno finalmente reso disponibile XMir all'interno dei repository di Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander in modo da poterlo installare con un semplice comando. L'annuncio è stato dato ieri tramite il sito Ubuntu Discourse http://ubuntu-discourse.org/t/xmir-now-available-on-saucy/918
Prima di passare all'installazione è bene precisare quali sono i problemi noti, problemi che sono stati elencati nella mailing list degli sviluppatori:

- Intel sna enabled
- Unity 7 operation fully functional with no visible corruption

(Firefox, Chrome, Thunderbird, etc)
- Good performance (without bypass), approximate 10% addition of overhead,
in most cases normal operation results in 60fps
- Fallback to stand alone X (for proprietary drivers)

Bene, ora che sapete tutto quello che c'è da sapere su XMir e siete coscienti del fatto che farete da cavia, possiamo passare all'installazione.
Apriamo il terminale e diamo
sudo apt-get install unity-system-compositor
ed infine riavviamo il sistema. Se volete fare i fighi potete farlo da terminale dando:
sudo reboot
Se tutto sarà andato per il verso giusto vi ritroverete con XMir perfettamente funzionante (ciò, da quel che avete letto è il caso di dire "quasi perfettamente funzionante")
